Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level courses that follow curriculum specified by the College Board. Like Honors courses, AP courses require a greater degree of self-discipline for in-depth study of the subject. These courses are designed to prepare students for success on AP exams, providing students the opportunity to earn credit at most of the nation’s colleges and universities. Successful completion of prerequisites, teacher/school counselor recommendation, and a strong interest in the subject are recommended for enrollment in an AP course.

Early College Credit Options

Through partnerships with local colleges and universities, eligible students may enroll in courses at participating institutions and apply college credit to both their high school diploma and a post-secondary degree. In addition to earning these “dual credits,” students will experience their first taste of attending college while still in high school and may reduce the long-term cost of attaining their post-secondary degree.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Beyond

The rigorous curriculum offers students ready for a challenge an exciting range of opportunities. In middle school, students can choose advanced levels of Earth, Physical, and Life Science. In high school, the curriculum includes Honors-level** Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus, Statistics, Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. And, as noted, multiple AP courses; specific to STEM are AP Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, and Computer Science. STEM electives are also available, such as C++ Programming, Forensic Science, Green Design and Technology, and Engineering Design.

Career-focused Courses

For the career-minded student, a broad range of high school courses provides an opportunity to advance in subjects for an intended profession or can help a young person discover his or her future path. Plus, through our career-focused courses—some of which are not offered in other schools—college-bound students can explore a possible post-secondary major or a career interest. These courses provide a powerful introduction to fulfilling careers in Information Technology, Government and Public Administration, Marketing, Finance, Arts and Communication, and many more.
